Advice for new business owners
I’ve had various side hustles over the past 8+ years ranging from Italian cheesecakes, to cake pops, to jewelry, to makeup YT Channel, to digital marketing, and many more wild ideas in between.
Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years 👇🏼👇🏼
✅Some clients are amazing, some are okay, and some you wish had never met. They each will teach you something valuable.
✅Protect your business. Open an LLC!
✅If you have a business idea: 1) purchase a domain name 2) create social media accounts 3) create an LLC or DBA
✅Don’t name your business after yourself. If you want to sell your business, it might be difficult!
✅Don’t spend money on unnecessary things.
✅Don’t tell everyone everything. Keep a little secrecy.
✅Create contracts and have protocols/procedures in place. People will try to take advantage of you.
✅Try to automate some of your tasks. Think lead capture, payment, etc. Some of my favorites are: HoneyBook & Intuit QuickBooks
✅Be really good at what you do.
✅Have business cards & promo items ready at all times. I always have a few business cards in all my pocketbooks. Create a digital business card using an NFC such as Popl
✅Connect with other business owners and HELP each other.
✅Mentor others.
✅Canva is your BBF.
✅Don’t give out your age…right away. Especially for young entrepreneurs.
✅Have a lawyer and accountant friend.
✅Create a business email. It looks professional.
✅Within your “active” business, create a few streams of passive income. You’ll never be in the red, if you have some cash coming in
✅Continue to learn about business. Read the The Wall Street Journal; understand different sectors even if they are not directly related to your industry.
✅Take advantage of open-source/free courses. Remember, knowledge is power.
